Come mostri, ritornano, 2024

Cristian Boffelli
Large formats, One-of-a kind copies. Private collection, Tokio, Japan
Figures that represent both the real world and the inner world
Born in Bergamo, Cristian Boffelli exhibited his first work in 1994; since then, his artistic career has taken him to some of the world’s major cities, including New York, São Paulo and Tokyo, where he currently lives.
In his works, engraving and lithography – considered the most direct means of expression as they leave no room for second thoughts – give life to figures of men and animals whose proportions and recognizable features have been altered. Figures that represent both the real world and the inner world, both of which remain unknown and yet to be explored. Among his major exhibitions, his participation in the Nakanojo Biennale stands out; in 2023, he will take centre stage at the event for the fifth time.
A long-standing acquaintance
Cristian Boffelli has always been a familiar face, a constant presence in the studio.
Over the years, there have been numerous opportunities for dialogue and collaboration: from the first exchange projects in the early 2000s, such as Aspettando l'Inatteso (Waiting for the Unexpected), an exhibition exchange between Italy and Switzerland, to collaborations with the LPK association and the K1 Project. This was followed by exhibitions and events overseas, in Brazil, at the Sesc Pompéia and the São Paulo Cultural Centre, and exhibitions in Europe, such as in Amsterdam in the Netherlands and in Italy, where he exhibited alongside Daniela Lorenzi.
In 2015, thanks to a collaboration with Kai Kruger, which led to the creation of the series Come mostri, ritornano.
This is a collection of whole hides printed using woodblock matrices carved and shaped by the artist. The hides were printed for a private collection, in the studio with Daniela, during one of her trips from Tokyo.
