Survive thrive & have some fun! It is a project that began as a joke. Its development is as playful as it is complex, inspired by Julia Binfield's iconic medium bags.
Julia's design, with the help of Daniela Lorenzi's expertise and the tools available in both the atelier and Julia's studio, has resulted in an exclusive limited edition.
Given away entirely to around a hundred lucky recipients, this creation required a long and complex production process, divided into several stages: from the design to the cutting of the materials (denim and linen), printing with a letterpress proofing press, wooden typefaces for the lettering, and the use of stamps for labels and details, even on the packaging of the complete kit. Gumprint, flat printing with black ink on linen, for images/icons, using a hand-operated engraving press. No less laborious was the assembly and sewing work, which took several weeks, and finally the preparation of the packaging to put the whole kit together.

In mid-December, during one of our printing days in the studio, we said to each other:
-“Why don't we give a gift to our mutual friends or acquaintances, for example Elena!” So, placing all the responsibility and even a little blame on poor Elena, we set about designing our kit for 2021, thinking about a year of supposedly low expectations, given the general climate, which will require strong nerves".

Survive, survival, fundamental - number 1 - unfortunately never so obvious
thrive or feel good – option number 2 – and then if you get that far,
number 3 – have yourself some fun!
Despite the different colours of the days (always wearing masks, of course), whether travelling or at home in our respective studios, we achieved our goal with great professionalism, dedication and love, but above all, we can say that thanks to you, we have already had a lot of fun!
A lot of fun because we realized that we know many people in common, and the edition figures have continued to rise.
Fortunately, a parallel paper production of the edition has also been launched. Taking advantage of the double pass required for letterpress printing, we can now send our gift to those who live further away, or those who we imagine would appreciate a print more than a bag kit.

A metà dicembre durante una delle giornate di stampa in atelier ci siamo dette: -“ Perché non facciamo un regalo agli amici o conoscenti che abbiamo in comune, per esempio Elena!”. Dunque, caricando tutta la responsabilità e anche un po’ di colpa alla povera Elena, siamo partite nella progettazione del nostro kit per il 2021, pensando a un anno dalle presunte basse aspettative, visto il clima generale, e che richiederà nervi ben saldi.

Survive, sopravvivere, fondamentale - numero 1 - purtroppo mai così non scontato
thrive o stare bene - possibile numero 2 - e poi se arrivi fin lì,
numero 3 - have yourself some fun, divertirsi!
 
Nonostante i vari colori dei giorni (sempre con le mascherine naturalmente), in trasferta o in casa nei nostri rispettivi studi, abbiamo portato a termine il nostro obiettivo con grande professionalità, dedizione, amore ma, soprattutto, possiamo affermare che grazie a voi abbiamo già avuto parecchio fun!
Parecchio, perché ci siamo accorte che conosciamo molte persone in comune e il numero della tiratura è continuato a salire.
Per fortuna è nata anche una produzione parallela su carta. Approfittando di un doppio passaggio necessario per la lavorazione in stampa tipografica, possiamo quindi fare il nostro regalo anche a chi è più lontano, o chi immaginiamo possa apprezzare di più una stampa che un kit in forma di borsa.
