Pietro Bologna L'altro sguardo, 2016

From a collection of slips of paper, found and kept over time, twenty-three originals printed in the darkroom came into being in 2014. The outcome of a process of four consecutive days of printing, they are the visual sum dictated by instinct, by gesture and by the tearing of several fragments that merge and re-emerge on the sensitive paper with different intensities of black, revealing unexpected traces; as in a Heideggerian vision of the image.

A research project by Pietro Bologna lasting several years, presented for the first time at the Galleria Lorenzo Vatalaro in 2017.

 

From a series of poems by René Pons and Pietro Bologna's wish to unite word and image in one volume came L’altro sguardo, a limited-edition artist's book conceived and designed with Daniela Lorenzi in 2016.

Made during his participation in the Visual Making project, at the invitation of A14 itself, the edition can apparently be traced back to the canons of the early 20th-century French artist's book tradition.

The result, however, comes from an entirely new technical experiment: a combination of numerically controlled machinery for making the plates and traditional intaglio press printing using several plates and a blending of layers of different colours. A creative process that, with a renewed gaze, made it possible to rediscover and amplify the very essence and atmosphere of the original subjects.

The edition was presented for the first time at the exhibition mounted for the Visual Making project in 2016 at Spazio Base in Milan.
