ADFINIS, 2021

Artists in Residence and exhibitions. A14, Milan, Italy. Lorenzo Vatalaro Gallery, Milan, Italy.
Photography as a tool, as a starting point and as a perspective
ADFINIS [from the Latin affinis ‘adjacent’, a compound of ad- and fines ‘borders’]
The aim is to forge connections. Pursuing this goal is rooted in a vision that finds its meaning in the value we place on the work of artists and their creations. Lorenzo Vatalaro writes in the press release for the Adfinis exhibition series.
A series of five solo exhibitions
ADFINIS presents five different artists in a series comprising five solo exhibitions and one group exhibition: Pietro Bologna, Shiro Teramoto, Ugo dalla Porta, Leo Pallegatta and Gianluca Arienti.
Distinct personalities who, at the same time, engage in self-reflection, in a process of mutual rapprochement and discovery of the potential of their encounter. All these explorations intersect with photography as a medium of expression.
Photography as a tool, as a starting point and as a perspective.
Two places that are naturally intertwined.
On this particular occasion, this perspective was prompted and amplified by two venues that are naturally compatible.
Venues that foster and facilitate exchange, which have inspired, shared and strongly supported: the Lorenzo Vatalaro Gallery and the A14 studio, where the artists shared a residency.
Resonances of thought and poetic language. The catalogue as a hybrid experience
Choosing this approach, which goes beyond mere exhibition, has enabled a natural process of discovery to unfold, in which individual research and perspectives are brought together, revealing common ground in thought and poetic language, raising new questions or developing possible answers through diverse experiences.
This approach is first evident in the catalogue, where each artist, by participating in certain stages of the production process and adhering to certain common guidelines, presents their own work whilst also offering their personal interpretation of the collective project.
As part of an ongoing process of development, this project serves as a starting point, raising a number of questions, including: the relationship with photography, the hybrid nature of the research, the creative processes, different approaches and poetics, and the collaborative aspect.
