The album Meridiani Meridianos was born from the meeting of two studios, Atelier Quattordici in Milan and Gráfica Dez in São Paulo, in the Italian city in November 1998. It was a meeting of shared ideals and different realities. The will to produce quality prints, to explore other graphic possibilities, to deepen knowledge and to keep proposing new projects meant that the differences in how the ateliers operate and are organised, as well as those of a cultural and even financial kind, were overcome and often turned to positive account in building the artistic work.
Atelier Quattordici is a space that, although recent (opened in 1992) and run by the young printmaker Daniela Lorenzi, has distinguished itself in its country for the seriousness and competence of its work, combining tradition and the contemporary without falling into fashions or technical mannerisms. Atelier Quattordici is currently associated with Grafica Upiglio 22250, directed by Daniele Upiglio, a descendant of a traditional family of fine art intaglio printers in Italy, thereby broadening its resources and scope for action.
Aware of the richness of cultural diversity, Atelier Quattordici - Grafica Upiglio 22250 has sought to work together with artists and ateliers from other countries, proposing and accepting collaborations such as the one that led to the album presented here.
This exchange generated an experience that, above all, prompted reflections and actions that still endure today in the activities of these ateliers.
