Franscesca Gagliardi Il gioco della rana, 2001

Created for participation in the JOG Project, which included several exhibition dates in Brazil, it is the last of the playful editions by Francesca Gagliardi. It takes up a traditional game of the Po Valley. The exhibited result includes a bronze cast of the frog typical of this game, a large printed sheet as a poster of the rules and a recording, to be listened to on headphones, of testimonies by elderly players, who describe in dialect the rules that have always been handed down orally. Unlike the previous games, it becomes testimony, memory and a link with the past of the artist’s place of origin. It questions an idea of identity that shifts and takes shape in space.
