... It is clear that mechanism and rationalism have today made everything much more difficult, so much so that we are no longer able to notice nuances or colours, undermined as we are by the disease of certainty and security, which we too often experience as tragedy.
Conversely, we should learn to live silence, not as a void in the common sense, but as a possibility of word and image. Here lines might emerge that come from impetus, variations and gestures that release renewing forces in the recovery of time and hence of a memory that is not standardised, but understood as a voice that, in the present, crosses history, without oblivion or evasion.
As happens in the prints presented here.
They are the work of eight artists of different ages and backgrounds, who gravitate around two print studios, one L’Impressione of Franco Lafranca and Roland Haas, in Locarno, the other the Atelier Quattordici-Grafica Upiglio 22250 of Daniela Lorenzi and Daniele Upiglio, in Milan.
Two different places, not only in their geographical position, where nonetheless one breathes the same air of inks. It is here that the eight artists presented come, some will say superficially, to print the fruit of their plates. I would say, rather, that besides printing, they come to these two well-defined places to engage in dialogue, even in silence, and to be touched by a whole bundle of trajectories that come from the past and hence from a history not crystallised in itself, which for that very reason illuminates the various aspects of present reality.
