The project

Kai14 was born from the meeting of Daniela Lorenzi and Kai Kruger, a project that initially involved several artists in various experiments.

KAi14

As printed in the presentation folder/sample book: KAi14 was born from the union of skills in the field of Original Art Printmaking and Interior Design for the creation of limited-edition pieces or unique works.
The tradition of quality hand printing and leatherworking. The printer and the craftsman are tools at the artists' disposal for carrying out their projects.

Experimentation and research. Analogue or digital processes for making plates (metal, wood, synthetic) for hand-press printing on leather.
Quality and expertise. Design solutions and craftsmanship in leatherworking.

Kai Leather

Kai Leather is a studio in Toronto, Canada, which since 1998 has been producing and carrying out design projects and projects for clients working in interior design and art.

It is known for its ability to find innovative solutions in leatherworking through experimentation with techniques and materials.

Kai Kruger, the founder, has more than thirty years' experience in leatherworking. Starting with a successful apprenticeship in his native Germany, he later received the title of Master Saddler and for years now has collaborated with design and art studios working internationally.

Collaborations with artists

The first collaboration dates from 2015 with Francesca Gagliardi, who developed a project working both at A14 in the Milan atelier and in the workshop in Canada, producing a series of shields/sculptures exhibited with a wider body of work during the Art Paris Art Fair, at the Grand Palais in Paris. A solo show presented by the Galeire Géraldine Banier.

Other significant collaborations include the series of unique pieces by Cristian Boffelli printed from large-format woodcut blocks, and an experiment on transparencies, between inks and differences of surface, by Kaori Miyayama.
