Each book, composed of 100 images printed on the press, with handcrafted binding and texts in Monotype letterpress, is kept in a custom-made leather slipcase.
The classic etching process used to make the plates was deliberately rewritten with the support of numerically controlled machinery in some stages of the work; this helped to render all the graphic detail and the depth of the black line typical of Fornasetti. The use of the intaglio press made it possible to reproduce what had already been described in Diderot's Encyclopédie, in a manner unchanged since then. The key to a new reinterpretation of the Tema e Variazioni archive lies in the design choices and technical solutions.
The original brass plates, etched, become elements set into the cover and give each book a different face
