GCL – Gianlooking Clouds is a project born from the transliteration of my name, inspired by a revealing encounter with Johnny Looking Cloud, a Native American of the Oglala Lakota tribe, whom I had the chance to meet a long time ago. I have always been captivated by clouds, and when we introduced ourselves, the magic of his Lakota name, meaning “John who looks at the clouds”, stayed indelibly in my mind. And so, years after that meeting, I decided to adopt this name and develop a creative idea honouring John's memory by handing down his gaze in my works.
The image in question is part of a series of original prints made from litho-offset sheet metal, printed by hand on an intaglio press. The project is always chasing clouds and is in constant evolution, developing through different languages ranging from printmaking to photography and video.
