Production and printing of large formats. Solo exhibition. Galleria Carlo Mazzi, Tegna, and Monumento San Giovanni Battista, Gnosca, Switzerland.
Two venues for the presentation of a single body of work by Luca Mengoni, which revolves around a central core, represented by a series of seven large-format prints.
In Tegna, together with other prints and some sculptures, the series of large-format intaglio prints is on show, which gives its name to the twofold exhibition project Tu sei un albero io sono un sasso, made in collaboration with A14.
The other prints presented in the exhibition, except hold on, were made by Franco Lafranca and René Tazé.
Themes already present in the artist's iconography – butterfly, ladder, tree, dog rose – are rendered in these prints with an opaque and subtly objective mark. The essentiality of the language conceals within it, once again, the dimension of play, of ambiguity and of double meaning.
Exhibition introduction: Leo Zanier.
In the exhibition space of Gnosca in Bellinzona, a Romanesque church built in 1202 and now deconsecrated, Mengoni creates an open-air installation in which a few objects are placed in relation to one another: a ladder, a stone sculpture and a neon sign hold on.
The central element, the ladder, is made from the incised iron plates that were used to make the large-format prints shown in Tegna. Introduction: Marco Fragonara.
