This is Andrea Sala's third solo exhibition at
Federica Schiavo Gallery. The works on show arise from the encounter of different ideas, sometimes far apart, and from the unexpected hybridisation of familiar but apparently irreconcilable forms and materials, resulting in a language that is formally independent of the initial sources of inspiration.
In this exhibition
Andrea Sala focused on the notion of the
off-topic, giving value to those marginal spaces that exist between a precise current of thought and its drifts, or deviations, which have in fact generated something else. The off-topic, according to the artist, describes our contemporary condition which, lacking historical distance, escapes any attempt at classification through an unexpected aesthetic that is hard to define.
The selection of the materials used plays a central role: each of them presents imponderable factors during the technical working stages, which help to undermine the orthodoxy of every initial rule, supporting the artist in formalising works that are increasingly contaminated and, indeed, off-topic. It is on these premises that the artist creates a series of sculptures that draw freely on the movements of the historical avant-gardes, composing an unprecedented alphabet of new forms.
